Once upon a time, many years ago, in 1949, a Canadian industrial engineer and inventor, Robert E. Swanson, in a quiet and remote spot in the wilderness, near Nanaimo, British Columbia, created a sight for designing and testing signalling devices, mostly horns and whistles for locomotives and ships.

Between 1948 and 1949, R.E. Swanson invented and patented, the worlds first 5 chime air horn... the Hexatone H5.

Swanson's company, Airchime, now called Nathan Airchime, became one of the worlds leading manufacturers of locomotive air horns.

So, next time your listening to the horn sounding, coming from one of your O gauge models, the sounds you're hearing just might have a connection to that remote whistle farm from the past?
