Presenting:
Apparently to honor the region's beet growing prowess.

Is that the result of Thomas meeting up with a girl's train?
Probably no mistake that it's the color of Pepto-Bismol!!!
NOT one of Japan's better ideas.......IMHO, of course!
Wonder if Lionel might've had better success with the Girl's Train if they had marketed it as "The Beet Grower's Express"???

Great color, just wait till after a year with the steam oil mess. It will be a dirty girls train?
OK, now you folks just quit picking on the beet growers. Just up the road a bit (after a few wibbles and wobbles and a drop into the Platte valley - about a 60 mile journey all told) is the town of Brush Colorado. It just so happens that their school athletic team is known as the Brush Beetdiggers. Don't believe me, do a search. I'm betting that they would like to have that engine running up and down the tracks to the old GW sugar factory - BNSF, ya know.
colorful engine

Now that would be a sight, a pink BNSF engine! I've been through Brush many times. Minnesota also has a beet growing region in the west central part of the state.
So tripleo, If the beetdiggers win, does that mean the loosing team got a "beetdown"?
UP does/have a GE with a pink ribbon on it.
Barf!
"So tripleo, If the beetdiggers win, does that mean the loosing team got a "beetdown"?"
I dunno....beets me.
You guys have to remember, though, that sugar beets don't have any coloring - almost pure white. Maybe they should have a white engine with a few pink stripes to pay homage to those pickled beets (or eggs or sausages) that are often sitting on the bar of some of the less-than-socially-accepted establishments in the culturally deprived areas of the country.

Might look like "muddy girl" camo?

Double Barf!!!!
Apparently it's all part of a "pink" promotion in connection with the beet-growing industry of the region.

Here is the locomotive in more normal times. Incidentally this is 42" gauge like the original Japanese rail network.
What do you mean "culturally deprived" areas ? Culture is an item of one's taste, and all tastes vary from one end of our great nation to the other. That is what gives our America, just likes it rail roads, the diversity and greatness they are known for.
As Garth Brooks says... "I have friends in low places..." and those are some of the friends who stick by you through thick and thin, bad times and foul weather, no regards to political affiliation.
Just finished watching a great hour of films about the Sasquehanna RR and the history thereof. Every Monday on RFD TV and "I Love Toy trains" on every Thursday. Gives me reason to come in from outside work and have a couple Lion's Head beers.

No worse than what the CB&Q did in the 60s...

Sorry but, that pink piece of crap is MUCH worse than the famous gold #5632 which was to commemorate commuter service between Chicago and Aurora!
Different colors attract publicity for special events. Not likely to please the serious rail-fans. Please consider the context of the event and the locality ?

Welcome to the town of Semantics.
Both colors are equally incorrect.
Yep. For years, MTH had been painting standard Superliner cars in Amtrak Surfliner paint. Surfliner cars are a commuter-style car with two double sliding doors on each side and the stairs toward the ends of the cars. Well, Amtrak added a Superliner coach to the Surfliner trains, but left them in their standard all-silver paint. Last weekend, spotted one in a train that was painted to match the Surfliner cars. Looks like the prototype sometimes follows the model.
Don't give Mary Kay any ideas!

Wasn't there a new startup railroad that had a contest to design the paint jobs for their locos and the winner simply took photos of the models on his HO layout and they went with that, road name and all? I think that was in the late 80s or early 90s if memory serves...
Wow. That is officially uglier than any pink toy locomotive.
I went into a hobby shop once. There was a pink G scale hopper. I thought it was some sort of G Girl's Train. The owner said no, this elevator had some painted pink in real life. I forgot the company which "rose" to the situation with that color.

I guess there's a prototype for unpainted brass too!

The pink FMC hoppers belonged to Iowa co-ops Klemme, Ralston and Farnhamville. They have been made in N, HO and G scales by various manufacturers since roughly 1990.

Actually, Weaver made them in O also. I have a set. Lionel may be bringing them back with their new Lion Scale line (ex Weaver molds).
645 posted:... And more recently the Lake States Railway updated their paint scheme which is based on one used on a HO scale model railroad as well but in this case the model railroad's name was not Lake States Railway. For more see:
That's a good-looking scheme !

Great. You just added to my wish list. (I have them in N scale.) Let the hunt begin.

Also Atlas O Trainman ran pink hopper cars named West Central (Iowa).
Amended: The pink hoppers belonged to the co-ops Klemme, Farnhamville, Ralston-Jefferson, West Bend and Albert City (all in Iowa), and some were produced as models in N, HO, O and G. Many of the hoppers were FMC covered hoppers, but I found some pictures of ACF center flow hopper models, too. And my list still may not be complete.
Elliott, if you locate any of the Weaver O ones around, send me a message. I suspect Weaver didn't paint very many.
Here are my fleet of pink hopper cars. First picture, from Atlas O Trainman, two different road numbers. Last 4 pictures are from Weaver, each cars come with four different road numbers. Total 18 cars.

Or the Santa Fe did in the same time frame...
And all of this humility heaped upon the horses-of-iron in the name of ....."Celebration". Good grief.
What's next? Our honored U.S. Armed Forces pink painting a nuclear sub? An F-117 Nighthawk? An M1A2 Abrams Tank? ......to "Celebrate"??//
Is nothing 'sacred' anymore!?
Just kidding. All in fun. Just ask the kids. Who'll tell you about all the colors of Thomas and His Friends!

Besides....after WBB came out with their pink-painted GG1, and the associated indigestion and indignity subsided, what shame could possibly be left??

Jim, I know right where they are, on the layout. I bought them from George up at III Rail. They might have been Peterson (Weaver bodies with short run custom paint). I have the 3 middle ones that CGWforever (Patrick) posted above. Unfortunately, I don't know of any for sale.
Awlawdee, ya' can't unthink something like that after seeing it. But seriously, folks, it jus' goes to show somebody has a good sense of humor and a sense of playfulness.
Now, lemme go see if I can find something to do that will help me forget seeing that.
Was there not a pink sub in the movie OPERATION PETTICOAT?
