According to Trains Mag. The move early next weekend of C&O 1309 from the Baltimore RR museum to the Western Maryland scenic will be done free of charge via CSX. Nice job CSX.

When I was at WMSR about two months ago taking a cab ride in 734, the crew was commenting on how professional and cooperative CSX has been regarding this entire move.
The 1309 will be lifted on Thursday AM (webcam will be available) and moved sometime next week likely.
Well what do ya know??....That is indeed very kind of them to handle this.
Does this mean that next year we get the 1604 out of retirement !?? !! Huzzah !

Not only no, but H$$$ NO!
Maybe not 1604 but letting 1225 run to Chicago or Detroit would be a great start

The SRI folks will have to rebuild the valves at least, on 1225 before she does much more running. All the work that was done on her since the 2009 event, was all related to the boiler and the FRA mandated 15 year inspection.

A key point to remember here is, the 1309 is being loaded onto a heavy duty flat car and her tender loaded onto another flat car. CSX will NOT be moving the 1309 on her own wheels!
At least they're paying for what IS being done, a giant step forward. Only kidding about the 1604......unless I hit the Mega-Millions !
I'd like to catch the move if it's in daylight.
Any idea on how tall the loco/flat car combo will be? I'm thinking probably too tall for the Old Main tunnels so it's down to D.C. and up the Met to Point of Rocks.
