Each year my lovely wife Paula accompanies me to the York TCA Eastern division train meet. We usually arrive on Wednesday and do some things together in Lancaster the day prior to the show. While Paula likes my trains, running layouts and the Thursday night at Fridays event, she would be totally bored if she walked the show with me. In the past I would just give her the car keys and send her off to the movies or shopping but there are probably more things in the area for her to enjoy things that women like to do. I always see a number of loyal wives and partners sitting in the Orange Hall lobby but how much fun is that???

I started this thread to post ideas for things that the "York Widows" can do on the days of the meet.

Here are two suggestions:

In York not far from the fairgrounds exists a decent sized chocolate and candy factory that gives free tours.

Its called Wolfgangs Chocolates

There is also the Harley Davidson factory tour and museum;

If anyone has any other ideas to keep the ladies busy on the days of the meet, please post them on this thread.

On one trip, before the show began on the fairgrounds, to amuse her, we hit

a pewter figurine shop that is just at the end of Carlisle (to the left as you turn to the

right for the "main" fairgrounds gate).  We also found another one somewhere out

in the countryside northwest of Lancaster.

Somebody mentioned Gettysburg on here...U.S. 30 really needs an upgrade west

to Gettysburg from York...as a major historical center.  May not be possible with all the small town roundabouts...

The real purpose of this post is to suggest things to do for all of the woman sitting in the lobby of the Orange hall waiting while their men attend the meet. Its a pity to see all those supportive wives and partners patiently waiting for 6- 8 hours. They should have some fun that day as well. This way they won't be so crabby when we finally meet up with them for dinner. Without womens activities, you might have a good day at the show but you'll suffer for it later on-LOL.

Where do the buses for the York shopping malls stop at the fairgrounds? IIRC the schedule is that a bus leaves every two hours but to what shopping centers do they go  and when do they return. Schedule anyone?
