Greetings. Decided to try something different with a Mint car. Some of you may know that the Federal Reserve shreds vast amounts of paper bills every day due to being worn out, etc. The shredded bills are available, for sale, to the public. I located the shredded money I used on eBay. It came from the Kansas City Fed Reserve. I then, again, looked for a Lionel Mint car for the Kansas City Mint and found one. The inspiration for this came from the Lionel/MTH shredded court document car from many years ago. The KC Mint car has a separate plastic container that slides inside the Mint car. Older Mint cars do not have this. I acquired some clear polystyrene, .030 inches in thickness. This is the thickest I could find at a hobby story. I then proceeded to enclose the open sides of the Mint car plastic insert. Not a difficult job but time consuming to get all the pieces trimmed correctly. A polystyrene adhesive was used to glue everything together. I made this over a period of two days. Actual time is probably about 8 hours. Any shredded bills can be used in any Mint car, but I thought I'd go for "authenticity" by using shredded bills from the KCFR in a KC Mint car
Enjoy,
Steve
