Looks like a great ride. Tickets are sold out for 2023--hopefully, it will do better than Ed Ellis's retro City of New Orleans .
To be accurate, it is NOT "a train" but two cars tacked on the rear of a regular Amtrak train. The observation car, Hickory Creek is an original NYC 20th CenturyLimited observation, and beautifully restored.
My wife and I are booked into Hickory Creek for my birthday this November, really looking forward to it.
Got myself on the waiting list which I resume is for 2024.
I was in the area of The United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey on a trip to the region in 2015, and we just stopped by. The really nice staff guys there opened up this car for us and it was amazing just to stand inside it.
If you ever make it to the Boontown, NJ area, you need to check the place out. I was very surprised at their collection, including two immaculately resorted GG-1s!

It is Boonton, New Jersey. A famous spot on the DL&W RR.

The GG-1s are only cosmetically restored, and with excellent paint jobs.

To my knowledge, it is impossible to do more than a cosmetic restoration of a GG-1. They will never run again.
