This is definitely worth posting!!

This was CSX westbound empty ethanol K683 I saw today in Madison Ohio today lead by UP AC440CW #6697, (note the large eagle wings and low ditch lights make it look like the front of a C40-8W) & UP SD70ACe #8789 trailing 2nd. Well, as the ending of the train was nearing, I had to take a double look, because my eyes could not believe what I was seeing. It was 2 multi-axle DODX flatcars with a DODX Caboose!!!! I have never ever seen this on a Tank Car train before. This was a first for me. And to have a caboose on the end of a tank car train is like a miracle!!! This by far goes down as the best real train catch I have seen for 2020!!!

I'm not a real RR guy. I would guess by what I have seen, that there maybe something to having cars on ends of tank car trains. Buffer cars I believe they call them?

So if they had to deliver some empty cars, maybe hook them onto the end?? Dual purpose?

Joe, yeah that would be the case. But this is an ethanol train. Usually ethanol's don't have a buffer on the rear, oil trains do. As to this, these 3 cars on the rear are being transported somewhere.

Cool indeed!!!

I saw my first Amtrak train on N&W tracks from Norfolk last Friday, it was near Zuni Va about 0930.  I thought they only ran real early in the morning or real late at night.  Probably no more than 6 cars long.

I have seen west coast engines pulling here in Va, but it's rare.  And that caboose is even more so.

You must not live to far from me Bob, I’ve seen those UP engines down in the yard off 464 in Norfolk too....
