Hello train world .

Any Thorley Hoople fans out there ?    I was very fortunate to find this Hoople train out at York .   George (Tad) Cody  built the Thorley Hoople line from 1965-1969 .   There is an excellent article about the Thorley Hoople trains in the TCA Quarterly  October 1969 ,  Vol 15  #4   ..available online for TCA members.

This train is # 1010 or the tenth train made ....  last train with the early cars ... wood tops, squared off windows, sand cast trucks,  hand fabricated end railings etc ( later cars have metal tops , arched windows, die cast trucks, cast end railings etc) .

Engine seems to have a quartering issue as it lugs along , rod binding a bit .  I've reduced the rear rod bushing and added lapping compound to work it in...   has anyone out there had similar issues with their Hoople's?

Does anyone have any loose sets of Hoople wheel sets ? or one truck ? need to complete a later car .

There were no couplers  with the set ... so I just added link and paper clip ....unknown if they had  a more refined system.

Does any one have a copy of the Hoolpe 1966 or 1968 catalogs they can post images of ?  or I like to buy a xerox copy of thank you .

Cheers Carey

No info, but I recognise the loco and later cars by the railings. I'm pretty sure it had the brass trucks. Only one of each car, in Gramps "unrun" showcase. It and probably a Williams were the only new large gauge items in it. More cars may have been in the drawers under it, but I always thought the later rails put the old to shame when compared. Arched windows always win and the grain showed on the early roof. I thought the new to be much nicer; that's rare for me. A nice memory, thanks.

Come to think of it, I think the link bar was shorter, and had pins with chain, maybe attached in the bars center by a screw or loop. Likely brass, the black bar just doesn't sit right for me. I think the pins were silver, curved to provide room to grab it and a tiny loop for the chain at the end, facing the viewer.(shaped as in "LS" inverted)
