In the recent 'Buying Rules for Rolling Stock' thread, many of you said you don't want duplicate cars and many more don't want duplicate road numbers (myself included on the numbers, but not the cars). One thing MTH does with all Premier rolling stock is offer two road numbers for each car offered. I usually (90% of the time anyway) get both numbers for every car I order. I think this would be a good thing for Lionel to consider doing as well since they only offer one road number in each car offered. I was curious if anyone else thought this way? I am not referring the sets offered by both manufacturers, just the individual freight cars. And I forgot to add, I think Atlas offers up to 4 or more road numbers for their freight cars, although I am not yet as familiar with Atlas freight cars.

What do you all think about this?

How many of you get both road numbers for the MTH cars you purchase?

Should Lionel do the same as MTH with the additional road number offering?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Lionel will offer a four freight car set, say hoppers, of the same classification and for the same road name, with sequential road numbers, which can be expensive.

But, a single sale freight car will the same road number.

Maybe, as you say, Lionel should produce two cars, of the same classification, with different road numbers and would be more affordable.

I have bought three NYC Pacemaker box cars from another one of our Forum members and all are made by Lionel and on two of the cars I had changed one numeral, on each car, thereby giving me three different road numbers.

IF it's a road name that I like and numbers that I don't have I too go for it... Like I did with the GATX tank Train. I am persuing both the White logo set as well as the Orange.White logo'd sets.
