Dear All,

Here is the first video I have posted for my new small layout - Tinkers Hill 3. It is made up of Lionel O gauge tin track, old Hornby O gauge, Darstaed, Ace Trains and Bassett Lowke products. I only have room for a small layout but it is squeezed in the smallest room in the house underneath the glass ceiling railway. I am hoping to add more old Hornby tinplate items. I use it as a test bed/demo area for the locomotives I collect - and I do like to sit and watch the trains !!

Killian,

I am honoured - thank you for your kind comments. I started posting the YouTube videos as a bit of fun and a way to show other people how good British O-Gauge Tinplate Trains are. The trains give a lot of pleasure - you will enjoy them. Thank you again

Thanks Ed ! I could always do with more space whatever the layout size, I am just thankful for room I have - it was very good of the wife to let me have it !!! Mind you she has a larger room for her glass bead making !!!

I had bought some Hornby O wagons, track, a few accessories and then kind of stopped having moved on to other things. That's how I roll, buying stuff for one project, losing steam and then moving on to another. Eventually I'll cycle back to the Hornby but when I do I'll have to set my sights on a good loco.

Ed,

Track down an Ace A4 and you will not be disappointed. I hear Andries at Darstaed will be making some A4's later on this year !

David,

Maybe you can answer a question or two for me.  Between Ace, Bassett Lowke & Darstaed, when they make any model, do they make a small number (less than a couple hundred locomotives) or is the number closer to a thousand or higher?  Do you know if they have pre-orders.  This is a whole new side of the hobby for me and I'm trying to get as much information as I can.  Thanks again for the wonderful photos and the great videos.

Killian,

For the Ace Trains A4 I think they made around 800 locomotives in total. For their original Castle I think it was 300. I think a standard run for Ace is around 500 to 600 not much more and once made never to be repeated !! For Darstaed I would say the production runs are a lot less. I don't know a lot about the Bassett Lowke production numbers but I do know they have a habit of heavy discounting of any residual stock, Ace and Darstaed do not do this as I think demand exceeds supply.

You can pre-order from a stockist - I use Much Ado about toys at Stratford Upon Avon in the UK. It is only 28 miles from my home. Terry and David are very helpful and ship a lot to the USA.

They have two Ace Streamliners on pre-order for me  !

Great stuff David; those European models are just beautiful.  I have a windup (clockworks?) Hornby train that I really enjoy but I need to find an original key for it. I have been tempted many time to add additional Hornby stock but so far I have limited myself to the one train and a couple of interesting accessories.  Keep those videos coming.

Most impressive!  Love those A4s.

Who made the tinplate passenger platform and train station?  Hornby? ACE?  Darstaed? Someone else?

Bob

Bob,

All the tinplate buildings are various original Hornby. Still a few about but getting harder to find nice ones at the right money.

Thank you. I am awaiting the Coronation Streamliners, should be with us just after Christmas. You will certainly see some videos then !!
