Well, I started another conversion. But this time, unlike with the 490 into dockside, I made sure I had everything. Haven't finished it though. But here it is: a Marx coffin tender and 490 motor bashed with a Lionel 6457 frame to make a boxcab diesel. As is, the motor mount will be on the bolt that holds the body together.

Will ll update as I do more work to it.

Well, I finally got around to cutting the frame last week. So here it is, unpainted, but fully functional.

The bolt I used to hold the body together also holds the motor bracket.

In order to maintain structural ridgity in the frame, I cut it in half and bent the sides up. I also planned to cut part of it to hold the back of the motor, but misjudged and ended up bending the deck plate from the 490 to hold the rear of the motor (mixed results). Attached the deck plate and coupler with a bolt.

Probably will design a paper printout to glue over the shell and make a "lithoed" boxcab diesel.
