I know that we cannot keep our trains pristine, however it really bugs me when I see an auction for an engine and all of the paint area around where the tender connects is gone. am I the only one that puts electrical tape on the bottom of the bar to keep it from scratching the surface on the engine?

Clear plastic & nylon thrust washers can be found near in near paper thickness (for insulating electrical among other things) if you do some research vs settle on whats at the big box stores I'm sure you could take the idea to new heights of quality.

E.g.,  In pinball machines they use clear stickers over graphics to prevent ink wear. They stay put, and release well with a little hot air.

Maybe a cellphone screen protection sheet?
