Tinplate Girl's Set

hi, was there yesterday myself,,and i think its super,,have it on layaway,,didnt hear the sound set tho,,,didnt have time,but overall nice

I haven't see an actual set yet, but must admit to being somewhat intrigued by it.  The color scheme seems somehow more appropriate to a tinplate set than it was to the other O gauge sets produced over the years.

 

It's not on my shopping list...yet..but may end up there at some point.

I dunno, but judging by the image on MTH's FB page, the pink looks a little off:

 

Maybe, it's the lighting.

you know i thought the same thing,,,it was up on the shelf,i even commented on that to harry,needed a bit more red to the tint,but i still like it

Maybe in another 55 years or so, a darker patina will develop. I know that I won't be around to see it.

I think there's a joke somewhere that it's salmon, not pink....of course no one wants a fish colored train I'm guessing

Seen it at Sidetrack the other day.  My daughter thought the color was more of a flesh tone than a pink.  We passed on it.

Uhm-m-m, no.

I thought it was kind of interesting for a pink set which does look better in tinplate IMO. I agree; The pink does look off in the photo. I think the standard gauge girls set is more on the mark with the color. As far as the sound you could always change the sound file to a regular frieght sound file.

All this "bad talk" about the Girl's Train. Sounds like history repeating itself as the train no one wants.

 

Buy it and give it to your grandchildren as a collectible

 

Seriously, it has all the appeal as the original had when it was new, however, I doubt this one will achieve iconic status.

First, I don't think I would necessarily trust the colors as rendered in an online photo.  Too many variables might be involved..type of lighting, etc.

 

But I may have to buy one because it appears that a number of folks don't care for it.  That pretty much assures some future popularity.    

Mum's the word, jsrfo!  I figure they probably made about 50 of these sets, so we'll just have to grab a couple before they are gone..  

If someone happens to have a video of it in action, it might make me decide whether to really get it or not....

Regarding the lighting....

 

A couple of folks above reported seeing it in person and it having a "salmon" or "flesh" hue. 

These colors are much better.

 

I heard at my LHS that they made 100 of these sets. I think that the owner probably heard this at MTH but I didn't get a chance to ask.

 

As far as color goes, I prefer tin over plastic, color differences don't matter to me.

That number may be right, but you can be pretty sure it's somewhere between 50 and 100, and not more than that.

 

For this set, I also prefer tin over plastic, and will make an evaluation for myself once I see the set in "real life."

allen, i did see it in the"flesh" so to speak,,,not pink,,pink and yes more salmon,,which maybe the "new" pink for 2013 !

I also noticed that this set is being released so close to Easter 2013.....maybe it'll make a decent Easter train for anyone in the mood.

   You maybe right, that color does not look right at all, the saving grace is the 263E engine, can't believe they actually painted it that color of Pink.  Butchering a beautiful 263E Like that is Criminal I tell ya.

I have mentioned before, that my wife has just about every pink or girls train made to date. There are a few she doesn't have....yet. She's my one and only, and I buy them for her as she supports my hobby. She lets me spend enough on myself, so I don't mind at all.... I have yet to receive my traditional version of this set, but will get it soon. The color does look a bit off, but we'll see. The nicest pink to date was the 408e with 418 cars from the 05 catalog. It's amazing. Just a beautiful set. One if these days I'll take them all out and take a photo. Most are away until my little guy grows up a bit more. Sean.

   How about some pictures of your wife's Pink girls trains, I have seen some real cool ones, when they were made up properly for the girls.

Keep us posted on that color once the set arrives.  No reason I can think of that the color would be any different from that used on your wife's 408E.

I would like to see a real picture of the pink standard gauge 384 set or see it up close. I have to admit the pink with the red roofs don't look to bad to me. If I had a grand daughter I would love to get her that set.

I ordered it late. Hopefully I will get one. I do have 2 grand daughters.

I agree that from the photo posted above the color looks more like that pink salmon colored bathroom tile (often paired with black) that was popular in the 1940's and 50's.

Ok all... I picked up the set with my wife this am after a nice vacation.   We will take it out the next few days and take some pics to compare.  

I did open the box though when i got in and there is no set box. Dissapointed.   Just the outer shipping box and the individual boxes inside, nothing else. No lubrication guide,warranty etc..  Very surprised.

Ok, I was finally able to open the set up last night.... Beautiful, and very nicely done. As far as the pink color, it is almost identical to the Pink 408e set from 05. I didn't compare to the newer 384 Pink set, but id bet they match also. Lost my camera charger on vac so as soon as I get to Best Buy for a new one I'll take some pics and post them. Sean
