Tinplate steam loco ideas

I have been asking for a standard gauge Camelback for years. I think the days of new tooling in tinplate are over. 

I have two CMC STD Camelbacks. A Reading and a Erie that is in the roundhouse for repairs.

Gentlemen,

   I want to be able to afford an original Silver AF Standard Gauge Presidential Train, to run with my DCS TR mode, via my HHRC.   I also want them to make A Legacy - Coors Silver Bullet Tin Plate Train.

In the back of my mind, being somewhat tinplatey, those clean-lined, British-looking Delaware & Hudson steamers get my vote.

One of just two 2-6-2's the Pennsy ever had.  They were both experimental Alco's and similar.  One went to lines East and the other to Lines West.  Straight boiler, 80" drivers and spoked pilot and trailing wheels.  And if that don't get you, check out those wild 45 degree canted cylinders!

It's hard to be high drivered 4-4-0's for the cool factor..

So, there you go, two PRR loco's, but neither with a Belpair firebox and neither were built by Baldwin or the PRR shops!  That is really saying something!

Ha, I found a wildly cool PRR humpback too.  Love the big wheels!

Didn’t know such a thing was made. I’m an O gauge guy, but please put up some pictures at your convenience.

This will have to do for now. After almost two years it’s now going back together

Geared steam would be cool. With the right prototypes, no complex mechanisms would be needed.

And there is probably the market for it.  Darstaed is doing this with classic UK and European trains in modern tinplate.  Why not some USA models.  Just need someone able to get it going like they did.  Thier reissues based off some classic Hornby items, like the engine house, at prices much easier to digest than what a nice original one would fetch.    Mike the Aspie

How about a tinplate Milwaukee Road CHIPPEWA steam locomotive?  The prototype was a Pacific but I would settle for an Atlantic like the RichArt Ives 1134 below but with a contemporary motor plus smoke and sounds.

If I remember correctly the MRC Steam Locomotive was a Standard Gauge, Not an O Gauge, or am I mistaken.  Yes it was a Pacific if I remember correctly.

Way cool engine, always admired it.

Always thought there were so many streamliners, both steam and diesel that could easily be produced in tinplate. I've got a couple on the drawing board for when life slows down a little. First up will be a Marx New Haven I-5. The nose element will present the most challenges, but I think it could be a nice one for next fall.

A few of the guys streamlined Marx locomotives with plastic Easter egg shells.

Hi Dennis and any others interested in the PRR  Class J-28 2-6-2s.

Back in April 1996 the Train Collector's Quarterly published my article "A Pennsy Prototype for Lionel's 2025 and 675". The two locomotives actually were a bit different.  #2761 for Lines East had vertical cylinders and Walschaert gear whereas Lines West's 7453  had 45 degree angled cylinders and Stephenson valve motion.

Ironically  the length of the Lionel's 675 was about 1/48 the prototype. Who said Lionel couldn't make scale locomotives other than the 700E.
