Here's Pop's Lionel B6sb which came for Christmas of 1941. Considering when they were introduced, Lionel's Pennsy 0-6-0s were remarkable locomotives and they still can hold their own quite nicely on railroads populated with more contemporary offerings. Note ours has been modified for knuckle coupler operation. My grandfather and Dad had the locomotive converted by Madison as soon as the new coupler was introduced in order to be able to operate it with the more realustic postwar rolling stock.

Out of town, so nothing new, but have an archive photo of my grandfather's Marx 495. Rebuilt from the ground up a total of 3 times, pickup rollers, and spring loaded brush wells were added in successive rebuilds. One of my favorites, I added side rods recently.
Also, a little odd tidbit from a friend.

Chris, you got one!
Steve, that's quite a haul for one show. Haven't you been looking for a McCoy Hartford car for a while? If so, congratulatons!

On another site where I host a Pre War American Flyer thread I traced Flyer's use of their Wide/Low profile passenger cars over the 4 years that they had a B&O passenger train. I thought I would share the photos here too.
The 1936 catalog shows the set but says the color of the coaches is subject to change
1937
1938
1939
Over the course of the 4 years that the set is cataloged the engine, tender, couplers and trucks change.
Have a great tinplate weekend.

Northwoods Flyer
British tinplate this week. Burnett Ltd of England made, before WW II, a series of tinplate "kits" called UBILDA; the range included locomotives, cars, planes and a fire engine; all clockwork driven. Chad Valley took the tools of Burnett after the war and reintroduced the UBILDA range. Here is a UBILDA locomotive in LMS colors; this locomotive "kit"also came in a LNER version which the box shows. The very simple assembly instructions of the kit were printed on the box. A clockwork key and spanner to make the kit was included. The gauge was almost 0 gauge, but is does not really fit on 0 gauge track, it is a floor train.
Have a good weekend!

did some more work on my 1689E project (down to one rubber band). was wondering what I'm going to run behind the Gunmetal engine, and I remembered that extra set of Marx NYC cars I got off of here. Looks pretty decent.
Steamer,
You did a nice job with the conversion project. What cars are you pulling behind the 1689?
Thanks,
-Matt
Nice Ubilida, Fred, I have yet to see the LNER version pictured on the box.
Some nice pieces as usually. My offer for today will be french tinplate from JEP. All three sets are originals and from the 1935-38 period.
The Golden Arrow set, Flèche d'Or
Have a nice tin plate weekend,

And now for something a bit different:
I maintain a file of "out of date" layout and cabinet photos. But there are some interesting shots taken 5 - 15 years ago. I'll be sharing them with you the next few weeks. First up we'll see the only 2 0-6-0 superclockwork tank locomotives made by Bing near the end of its life. Then we'll watch an LMS Hornby express go by and finally there is an aerial view showing all sorts of Bing, Biller, rare Hornby, Weaver etc. etc.

David, yes the Hartford has been on the shopping list for a while. Now I need the TTOS engine and the ticket wagon to complete the set.
The beer keg car had the nickle frame, so it was different than the one I had.
Happy to snag them.

Jim,
Yes they do. Flyer used the same Wide/Low profile passenger cars for the Aeolus set as they did in the blue sets above. They were chromium plated. I've sometimes wondered if they had intended to use the chromium cars with the 3300 steamer, or if there are some sets like that out there. That photo is of a very impressive set. The Aeolus set is on my "Wanted" list

This has got to be one of the easiest projects I have ever done! What's even better is the motor burned out on this a long time ago so I pulled it out of retirement and put it back on the layout.
first off,,,,,look what followed me home from pats trains yesterday,,,,a goodie from 2010,odd that the diner plate says observation ,but I kinda remember that flap from when it came out, 2nd set of pix,,,i have been working on reworking all the under pinings of the layout, moved and rebuilt the shelves,,,added a purple stripe a homage to mth ,they get a lot of my money, also redid the middle part of the upper level,,,took out the solid panel and made my own grider bridge of sorts, enjoy and try to stay cool,,,thats why I spend so much time in the basement,,,,,terry

I assume it did. I bought it on ebay by itself no paint required!
Long work week this week after the fun at the TTOS National Convention last week...along with some hard work and long days. Here are my finds. Steve Eastman found the fire station for me. The Pennsylvania 384 with PS3 was a online auction gamble that worked out, and the 2 custom painted boxcars behind were acquired at the Banquet auction night.

Nicely done Andy, I like that a lot. Very faithful to the old litho look, and a great vintage herald.

Found this beautiful MTH Blue Comet at the Greenberg show today

Excellent work on that Flyer baggage car...very well done.

Chris,
I looked on Ebay and saw that it was available in the few sets that were listed. Item was rough on one of them. Makes me wonder if the building from the tin automatic gate-man would fit in the small area as well? Maybe one that was beyond repair?

Captain,
Great finds! Especially the 384. I am surprised you were able to just find the loco. I have seen it on ebay, but the starting bids have been well over the retail of the starter sets.I will keep on lookin.
I helped an older friend purchase the set about 8 years ago prior to his passing as he was originally from PA, and loved the set, and it was special to him. The pictures of the set never did it justice.
Enjoy,
JoeG

Both my tower and shack arrived today. So simple, no cutting, bending etc. I put some orange plastic film inside. I opted for the all red tower.

Perfect fit, like it was made to be that way. It's a hoot, the ladder even goes up to the door.
