Is a AC to DC the correct power supply for the TIU?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
You can use AC or DC into the aux power. Anything from around 12V to 20V. If you're using DC through the fixed channels, I have heard that you should not use DC into the AUX power.
So, don't buy a power supply that says ac to dc. Get one that just says ac??
I have a 75 watt MTH transformer hooked up to my TIU's auxiliary power input.Far as I know the base must have AC power to work correctly. Maybe Barry B. (the DCS expert) will comment on this.

As John stated above, the TIU's Aux. Power port will accommodate either AC or DC.
Radio Shack is gone. Looking for a walmart I can power the TIU.
I have used the Lionel LionChief power adapter for TIU aux power. You can find them well under $20. I have also used a 12 volt DC power pack I had laying around. The power pack is supposed to be rated at least 1500ma.
There is a seller on eBay selling the Lionel power packs for $2.99 plus $6 shipping.
I use old laptop power supplies, got lots of them and they have plenty of power for the task.
And what ebay seller would that be, please.
