If you go to MTH web and search for your model number and the sound file is on the web, just down load it to your computer if you think necessary.

Extracting a SF from the engine is a long and tedious process that really is not necessary.

If the sf not on the web, contact MTH and they will upload it.

Frankly you always want to go to MTH for SF load, because they do update the SF and you want the last software incase of a bug in the production file.

Thanks George. The S2 is 20-20587-1 and the RS1 is 30-20246-1. Problems started after the RS1 file was downloaded. Couldn't find the back up of the S2 on my computer so went to MTH and downloaded the S2 sound file. When trying to install it an error message came up that it was an incompatible 5 volt file. Don't know where that came from. Went back to MTH and downloaded the S2 file again. After a mini adventure with unzip/browse etc I finally got the S2 file loaded back on to my engine. Problem is that it still takes off full speed, the lights do not come on, and the smoke fan does not come on. Bell and whistle are fine. Did feature and factory reset to no avail. Seems like it shouldn't be this difficult.

contact mth and tell them which engine item number you have and they'll probably  email you the flash code. flash codes are used with ps 3/2 and ps 3 boards to set them up for whether   it is a diesel or trolley or steam engine, you have to use the dcs consumer loader or have an asc tech do it for you! If your not sure what your doing maybe you should just have an asc  mth tech do it for you! if you do the flash code when you power up after flash code installed the module will go thru several reboots the engine module will put out tones and beeps while its setting itself up . after the reboots are done the engine module shuts down and your ready to run your train!

First: I want to thank everyone very much for the wonderful effort in helping me with this problem.

Second: I think it's time to give up. I've downloaded the files from MTH to the computer. Unzipped them. Installed both files onto the engine. Shut off the power. Deleted and added the engine to the handheld. Still no smoke or headlight and the engine still only goes at full speed with the first movement of the thumb wheel. I must have mangled something in the software. I'll get one of the guys up here who knows what he's doing to see if the engine can be salvaged.

Thanks again for the noble effort!

I love this Forum!!
