I have not used my trains in 5 years, I went to try to run them and the base does not respond to the remote.. I am running both TMCC and MTH DCS together. Is there any way to tell if the problem is with the base or the remote. I put new batteries in the remote so it is not a battery problem. The green light on the base is on but it does not respond to the remote. Any help is appreciated.

Does the remote emit a faint beep when you press any of the number keys?
No, it does not make any sounds
I would make sure the base crystal is firmly pressed in and the same for the remote crystal as they communicate with each other. Also, it could be the base is out of tune which is an easy fix.

That implies you are not getting power in the remote from the batteries. That can happen if the batteries are not making contact to the terminals or the terminals are corroded from previous leaking batteries and or broken and bent not making good contact to the batteries.

The base tuning only affects the track signal, the crystals are for the remote to base communication.
