TMCC crane car boom wont turn

You would certainly hear the motor in one of these if it was responding to TMCC commands.

I assume that you are using a Legacy control if you have icons. There have been some reports of the boom cars not functioning right under Legacy although I have not had that problem. 

Also, it's not clear whether there is a full reset code for this car as there are for TMCC engines (I don't see one in the manual and I know that there have been posts on this and other Forums about trying to find one). In your position I'd check to make sure that the run/program switch has been put back to run and if the car still doesn't respond, try resetting the engine ID.

Not sure what you mean by saying you have engaged and locked the gears - do you mean using the lever inside the door on the side of the car?

If all else fails try emailing Mike Reagan at Lionel. If his is a known issue he may have a fix.

Thanks for you reply Hancock52, Yes i did mean moving the lever over inside the cab, I cant understand why the rear light didnt flicker as stated in Lionels tutorial when i pressed the set button on my remote but yet everything works fine except the boom turn.

Do the other motors run for the hook and the arm?  Is it just the cab rotation?  As mentioned, you need to make SURE the locking pins are not installed.

Yes on the video tutorial it shows the rear light flicker when in programme mode and setting the ID, The boom lifts and lowers fine, both hooks operate ok and so do the outriggers, The cab rotation however doesnt move at all even when the gear is in mesh and the locking arm in position 

That doesn't sound good.  I think I'd be checking connections next.  The crane car is a bugger to work on, good luck.

Hi Everyone, Weve had some glorious weather over here for the past week so i decided to power up the outdoor layout this morning and try the crane car again, I decided to reset the ID without flicking the switch to programme, I kept the same number (15) and pressed the set button and guess what?, The rear light flickered and now the cab rotation works.

Firstly - On the video tutorial it states and shows that the rear light flickers but in the manual it states that it does not.

Secondly - When i first set it up with ID 15 and flicked the switch to programme the rear light did not flicker and cab rotation did not work but everything else did work.(crazy)

Thirdly - I would like to thank all of you who took the time out to try and help.

Bob, good news indeed. Happy endings are always welcome. It is a really awesome crane car, I'm sure you wil enjoy it greatly now that it is working for you.  

Sounds like the program switch is in backwards, I had an engine come that way, confused me a bit until I figured it out.

I like a happy ending and it's surprising how often command control and sound problems are resolved by simple trial and error. This is a great car and I'm glad it's back in working order without having to delve into the wiring. Odd that the run/program swith should be reversed but maybe it just did not engage when you first threw it.

P.S. If you don't have the sound-equipped boom car to go with the crane find one - they are a great addition.

One note on using the boom car, Set it to the SAME ID as the Crane.

It's Not like any other setup in that one regard. They both need to respond to the same # so the sounds and movement are synchronized.

I get a lot of pleasure using mine.

When I got mine, I waited until I could find the combo before buying, because the boom car does add to the fun.

Russell, lets not forget the military missile diesel and sound car.  They work in the same manner.  I even disconnected the electrocoupler in the engine and added one to the rear of the sound car.  They are a set (to me).

Nice mod John, I've thought of doing that to mine.  I can't imagine using the missile locomotive without the sound car in any case.
