I just made one for an MTH diesel out of the Woodland Scenics roadbed material-worked good.

On my legacy gp7, I've made a replacement gasket from black craft foam sheets available from michaels or hobby lobby

You can use the black tar gasket that mechanics use for the valve oil covers in a car. A little amount seals quite well but can be very sticky.

What engine specifically? I may have OEM replacements.

I have a two or three that need new gaskets.  The one I was running this morning was the Burlington GP-30 (6-28840).

 

Thanks to all for your suggestions.  I think I have the Woodland Scenics roadbed material and the tool box liner material on hand.  Would you recommend using white glue or rubber cement to hold the gasket in place?

Personally, I'd clean up the area with alcohol and use double-sided tape to stick it there, easy to remove when you want to.

Dillon: I didn't glue mine as it stuck to the original gasket; I'd try rubber cement as sooner or later, you'll need another gasket replacement and rubber cement cleans up easily.

I used an Exacto knife to cut out the center; just press against the stack for an impression and then cut it out.
