I have a curious issue.  I have a 180W Powerhouse connected to the TMCC Direct Lockon, all works well.  However, if I try to run my Lionel 3927 Track Cleaning Car, the TMCC Lockon shuts down almost immediately.  Without the lockon, all is well, obviously with less protection.

I've put some 1uF caps across the brushes to chassis ground like is done for TMCC AC locomotives, I thought that would damp any electrical noise, obviously not sufficient.  One other change, I have a series diode in the track cleaning car to cut down the voltage the motor runs on, I'm wondering if that is the source of the issue.  The motor works pretty hard at 18 volts, so I want to lower the voltage a bit.

Try

1. Reversing the diode (The Lockon's current sensing circuit is probably monopolar),

2. Removing the diode (to determine if a DC component is the problem), or

3. Putting a shunt commutating diode across the motor after the series diode. (Normally a commutating diode can't be used because the motor voltage reverses, but in your case only one direction is used.)

Well, I tried #1 and #2, but neither helped.  I noticed that this one I had NOT put the 1uf caps on the brushes, those apparently cured the issue.  I haven't tried the commutating diode, I may stick one in to see if it reduces the brush sparking a bit more, the brush caps did help that quite a bit.

After the caps, it ran around for 15 minutes without tripping the TMCC doghouse, that's a good sign.
