You run it with the Program Run switch on the engine in Run position.  As NS Trainman says make sure the engine is not receiving the TMCC signal.

 

If you have a TMCC base in operation it would be best to make sure the TMCC base is not powered up even if you do not have the TMCC base connected to the track under the tree.  Long story here.

 

Then assuming your 80 watt transformer has variable voltage just run the engine with the transformer.

Then assuming your 80 watt transformer has variable voltage just run the engine with the transformer in conventional mode sequencing it thru forward neutral and reverse.

 

The manual that came with the engine should explain this.  If you don't have it you may be able to find it on the MFG's website.
