Good Morning Fellow O Gaugers,

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm trying to lash up my Chessie Steam Special (CSS) and my CSS Aux Tender.
The CSS has an ERR Cruise Commander and it's ID'd as Engine 01. The Aux Tender has an ERR Mini-Commander EX and is ID'd as Engine 02. Seperately these 2 "engines" operate as they should individually.  The Aux Tender has two electronic couplers forward and rear. Both couplers connected to the HC-1/2 connectors. There are two lamps inside the tender, one for reverse and the other was for the marker lights when it was a Mohawk Tender. These are connected to the LC-1/2 connectors. The lamps do work accordingly.

Now this is where the issue comes in. I was able to lash these two "engines" a 3-4 years ago. It took multiple times, but I got them to lash. Since then no way, I followed the intrurctions to the letter and I can't get them to lash. So Here's what I'm doing:

Press TR for Train
Press 01 for Train 1
Press 01 for Engine 01
Press F for forward
Press and release SET, Horn Blows,    All good up to this point.

Press TR for Train
Press 01 for Train 1
Press 02 for "Engine 02" which is the CSS Aux Tender
Press F for forward
Press DIR
Press and release SET, Horn should blow but there's no horn on the Mini-EX, so I have no idea the program took.

Press TR for Train
Press 01 for Train 1
Press AUX-1
Press 0, This should sync up the two.

These two should be lashed up now, but nothing. The engine does change direction. The engine coupler doesn't workon the back of the engines tender.
Aux Tender, Nothing works. If I go back to using the "Engine ID's, everything works as advertised.

1.  What am I doing wrong?

2. Is there a way to add a horn or a light/LED to the Mini-EX to let me know the program took?

Thank you in advance,

Chris

Train numbers are 1 to 9.  There is no leading zero.  Delete all of the zeros in your train and engine numbers in the above instructions.

F stands from Front engine, not Forward.  When addressing the tender,

TR 1

2

R (for rear of the lashup, this will make the rear coupler and lights work properly)

Use DIR only if the wrong end lights and wrong coupler opens.

SET

Thank you again Bob! It helped!

But I'm using a Cab1-L system. Trying to not use the ZEROs it wouldn't program. I had to use the zeros.

So here's MY programming for the CSS.

Press TR for Train
Press 01 for Train 1
Press 01 for Engine 01
Press F for forward
Press and release SET, Horn Blows,    All good up to this point.

Press TR for Train
Press 01 for Train 1
Press 02 for "Engine 02" which is the CSS Aux Tender
Press R for Rear
Press and release SET

Press TR for Train
Press 01 for Train 1
Press AUX-1
Press 0, This should sync up the two.

Aux Tender back-up light works in reverse and the rear coupler works when pressed when lashed up.

Still would like to add something to the Mini-EX to acknowledge the programming.

Thanks again,
