I have been running TMCC through the DCS remote (with the special cable running between the TIU and the TMCC Command Base for two decades now).  The only issues I have ever run into was at a show where the A/C ground was bad.  As others have pointed out, this would not be the case with the original poster's issue, as he has at least two TMCC locomotives running.  All of that being said, I have always found it much easier to run the TMCC locomotives through the DCS remote (not having to remember I.D. numbers, command codes, or swapping out the templates on the remote).  Everyone is different in this regard and I think the person who compared Mac operation vs. PC is spot on-I learned on PC's and so ended up having difficulty with MAC's and have seen the reverse with other people.  I learned command control with DCS so operating through the DCS remote is much easier for me.

This seems like it has made progress since I last looked.  My personal experience.  I had TMCC first, and yes it was easy to hook up.  When I added DCS, I used the DCS handheld for MTH engines and the cab1 for TMCC engines.  Two remotes two systems but it worked pretty easily.  At some point, and I don't exactly remember when, I added some of my TMCC engines to the DCS handheld.  I didn't have any issues, and was doing basic operation.  When the DCS wi-fi came out, I really enjoyed it and stopped using the DCS handheld altogether.  I prefer using the iPad to control the trains.  Adding a Legacy locomotive will work for basic operations on the DCS wi-fi app, but for some features it won't, and I get that.

OP, it sounds like you may wish to do a factory reset on the engines that are not responding.  You also may wish to check to see if you have the lights on and the volume up.  If you can get the engines to work using a Lionel handheld, you should be able to get that to replicate to the DCS handheld.

I think the comparison Mac to PC is spot on.

Some of you folks need to slow your roll. He's (the OP) looking to get SIX of his engines working with TMCC, and already has 2 of them doing so. Suggesting he rip out all the electronics and replace them with some other system is ridiculous, especially when it's probably something as simple as setting an engine ID that's needed to get them working.

Your right.   Never the less one great discussion going on here.          j

Check the locomotives, they may have a switch to switch between "signalsounds" and "railsounds". Signalsounds is just the bell and whistle, railsounds is the one you want.

I can't believe I missed this. Switches moved to "railsounds," and problem solved.

Thanks again everyone. I'm now a believer in Lionel command control. I have to admit, the TMCC-equipped locos, while they can be run with DCS, run much better when using the TMCC Cab-1. Speed control with the red wheel on the Cab-1 is a lot more precise than it is with the DCS thumbwheel.

The Cab-1 is better at speed control than a phone that’s for sure, but I still think the DCS remote is better than both. The Legacy CAB-2 is the best of all of them at speed control when using absolute speed steps with aLegacy equipped locomotive.

The big problem with the original Cab-1/Base-1 is that the signaling is weaker and there is no means for absolute speed steps. This is one advantage of using the Base-1 with DCS… the DCS remote can issue absolute speed step commands. MU consists (a.k.a. lash-ups) will run much more smoothly.
