To Tether or Not To Tether, That is...

Hi,

Several days ago, Scott emailed me and said that the F-7 B units would be powered but tethered to the A units and, therefore, could not be run independently of its A unit,i.e., the B unit will not have a decoder.

Who is bothered by the lack of versatility of the B units caused by the tethering requirement?

If I wasn't planning to swap out the QSI decoder and install two other decoders I think it would bother me more.

On the FT it doesn't bother me at all because my railroad always ran them A-B or A-B-B-A.

On the other hand it was commonplace to see F7B units lashed up with GP7s, GP9s, E8s and even Alcos.
