Kinda in a rut here. I've been building a large foam mountain range on my layout for about a month. I have 3 main lines, all of which intersect the mountain in some way. I've been trying to take my time but I realized that I haven't been able to run trains at all. I think I am missing out on the best part of this hobby. Has anyone else been in the spot before?

I have been there many times. Let the desire to run trains push you through your project so you can run again. That has always worked for me.

Sometimes you just need a time out.
If they run through the mountain, you still got to find out if they will run through with no issues.
Just saying.
Todd,
I have been there. I like to get to the point where I can do some building, run a train, go back to building. Sometimes I have been able to let a train run while building, then watch and listen to it while building. That is what is nice with this hobby, there are so many things to do.
I'm running a double mainline through a mountain. Because of weird spacing for my layout and time restraints being a Dad I'm not sure I will see a full run for at least 5-6 months. Fortunately I love track and scenery and so am focusing on trying to enjoy every moment that I am building listening to my favorite music!

Sure. Mostly it is weather related like now when it is so cold and we have had a recent abundance of snow (like today, another foot) when it is impractical to go out to the train room.
Don't get down, take a break and run your trains. Building a mountain is a lot of fun as well, so enjoy the experience. We also have one of these to build.
Well, no. That's why am still at it after 10 years. I never did any project that would stop me from running trains. I kept a vacuum cleaner handy and a box for tools. Up with the sawdust, and into the box with the tools, and shazam, trains are running again.

I feel your pain, I've been working on wiring track and building a control panel now for almost two weeks. I've been able to sneak in a little running time for my grandson earler last week but now I'm just trying to hurry up though it so I can be done. I HATE WIRING!!

With me running trains comes first. If the trains can run I couldn't care less about what else gets done or not.

Depends entirely on what you define as "best". If you know it, then go do it.
I would rather build scenery than run trains any day.
