Hey Everybody

My layout is up and running and I’m going thru my roster, checking and running my trains to make sure everyone is running right.  I have a Lionel Pilot Cab Forward that has an internal knocking sound that is present on curves. I figured it to be internal and decided not to mess with it after looking at the undercarriage. Way to many screws and moving parts, I’m not that comfortable or confident yet to make that repair although it might be simple. Anyway I’m running the train around my layout (it’s in the building stage) and the train goes over a section of track and suddenly there’s no rail sounds, no backup light on the tender, no smoke and the train won’t shutdown when I tell it to. It will run and go forward and backwards and a steam discharge sound is present but that’s it. I’m puzzled and have no answer, I hope someone out there has the answer or I guess she’ll have to go to Lionel.  I need help. - THANKS - Marshelangelo

Let it sit a day or so; it may "reboot" properly if given som time to expend it's power fully. (this has happened to me before, stuck in N, stuck in FWd, "sound games", etc. ... I waited three days once, no dice; but after a week it was fine and hasn't done it again in many years now.  It did it more when new 😁

Also check/change the battery too. (battery keeps sounds alive over switches, etc) , The first and second time my battery was weak, but not the last time.

Don't test track with electronic engines if you can help it; do those last.

Look into TVS threads to help prevent damaging voltage spikes at the very least. (shorts/Sparks can cause spikes and though small ànd slight, any high voltage stands a chance at cooking boards. (That said, most of the lionel stuff is pretty stable, it may be achuff switch, loose plug, etc )
