I used a type of contact cleaner on my HO layout once and it caused the traction tires to swell up and come off. Make sure you test it first.

I will definitely check Walmart out for the CRC spray that is about half of what I have been paying and we have a Walmart close buy.

After reading all this I think I will just quit cleaning my track. Some of it is pretty dirty, but is still working quite well. And I don't like doing it anyway. 
I took Marty's suggestion on the CRC contact cleaner last night it and my track has never looked better!!
