My Standard gauge track is on Homosote strips resting on the carpet and I have had a problem holding the track sections together as the heavy engines and cars roll over them. I have used rubber bands but they eventually break so I looked for a better way. Finally I took a 36" piece of new track that was rusty, pulled the metal ties off, flattened the top and then I put it upside down at a track joint. The thing slid right on between the two ties at the end of each section and clips them together. Works great with very little fuss or muss. Going to get more track out of the attic and finish the job. Not sure but looks like it would work on O gauge, too.
