Hello.  I've finally been granted a parcel of basement real-estate by the 'X.O.'  Am

finishing off a 13X23 room, but I'm leaving the ceiling as exposed joists so as to

have the freedom to hang/clamp things up there as time goes by.  I asked the

contractor to supply three separate circuits, one of which is dedicated to ceiling

track lighting.  I want to put up four sets of dimmable LED's (6 bulbs a set, each

set having a 96 in. track).  I favor the flexible sort of track that can be bent to whatever need over the area.  Do any of you have experience with this type of fixture?  Quality is what I'm looking for.  The contractor will wire four boxes with three feet of extra length each and I will wire up the lights when the time comes.  Many thanks for all replies!

By the way, the railroad itself will be 7X16, and an island type.

Stay away from the flexible track lighting.  I had it in a third bedroom that we were using as an office for a time.  Just wasn't that happy with the lack of flexibility of the fixtures themselves.  They are a bit too stiff for the track, so you have to hold the track while adjusting a fixture.  Also, if you can use LED type fixtures, go for it.

You mentioned leaving the ceiling joists exposed.  That's a good idea as it does exactly what you want it to do.  The simplest way to go would be to use clamp on contractor type fixtures.  They come with a cord so can be plugged into a socket on the ceiling.  They are inexpensive and can be moved any time you desire.
