The National Capital Trackers tore down our layout at the B&O Railroad museum yesterday, 12/31. We operate our Christmas layout on the turntable in the roundhouse! Trackers also get special cab rides on the museum train. Operating this year was #6944 a freshly restored GP30 in the B&O "Sunburst" paint.

The real trains!
The 1927 Replica of the Lafayette, below, is one of 4 operable steam locomotives at the museum. Built by the B&O in 1927, it is a replica of the original. Built for the Fair of the Iron Horse and is occasionally fired up and operated by the museum. See it in action alongside the B&O Museum's large coal fired 0-4-0T in this video.
In the cab of #6944 a newly restored B&O GP30 that was powering the museum train rides. Trackers are lucky to get cab rides at the museum!
#6944, operating the museum trains and the latest release from the museum's restoration shop. Up next is the heavily deteriorated B&O E unit that was in the car shop. It was towed to the restoration shop for a complete and much needed cosmetic restoration.
Things were a bit disorganized in the museum car shop. It was used for the Polar Express event and the museum is also putting together an exhibit on steam locomotive technology and mechanics that will debut early 2016. The B&O E unit is in the shop for restoration (normally housed ahead of the MARC NPCU) and the C&O 490 streamlined Hudson "Yellowbelly" was temporarily outside and not on display.
