I need to change the traction tires on my NKP Legacy Mallet (6-11322). The instructions in the owners manual are generic and not reflective of the process needed for the Mallet. Anyone ever done one of these before? Do’s? Don’ts? Thanks in advance for any guidance you may have.

I looked at my 2-6-6-2 Mallet, and the rear set is fairly easy, just remove the rod screws from the back drivers and slip the tire over them and reassemble. The front set are under the cross head, so that one you'll have to do a bit different. It looks like you can reach the two rear set of drivers rod bolts, so if you take those off, you can slide the tire up and to the front driver without taking that hidden rod bolt out.
Thanks, John. I’ll give it a shot in the way you suggest. I appreciate you taking the time to give me a game plan.
John, it worked perfectly as you suggested.
As an aside, I love this engine. I have O63 and O72 curves and, to my eye, the big articulateds like the Big Boy are too big. This Mallet is my “big articulated” and it’s perfect on my layout.
Thanks again for your help!
Glad it worked out. That engine is big, but not overpowering, it's a nice size.
