I want to thank Marty Fitzhenry for recommending MTH diesel traction tires for Lionel's newest F3/F7 series of locomotives. I had the same problem others had with my Milwaukee Road F7 traction tires getting all chewed up and having my locos trying to do wheelies! I took Marty's info and bought enough tires for my powered A & B units and now they run very smoothly. Thanks again Marty!

i just don't get how Lionel can sell these guaranteed to get screwed up right out of the box.
What happens to all the people who don't read the Forum?
Good point. I had emailed Lionel when it first happened to me and they said check for dirt in my gears or for unseated tires. They were close with the tires.
I just picked up a brand new set of Lionel F3's on Wednesday (my first F's from Lionel, and my first Legacy engines), and sure enough they had the traction tire problem (wobbling, stuttering and derailing locomotives) right out of the box. Check out the photo below to see how badly the Lionel tires got chewed up after just a few laps around my very small layout!
I followed Marty F.'s advice and replaced all traction tires with MTH ones. The set runs great now...thanks Marty! What a valuable tip. I too am very glad that I'm a member of this Forum! Still doesn't excuse Lionel from shipping locomotives with a known problem. At a minimum, they should slip a piece of paper in the box telling customers there may be an issue with faulty tires. At least it was a relatively easy fix!

Does Marty have any advice for Weaver locomotives?
Al w.
I am glad things worked out.
Al, I do not see many Weaver locomotives for work. I have no idea how they do with tires.

:
The Weaver C630 has a tire groove 21.69mm dia x3.65mm width. Any ideas
for a MTH tire?
Thanks

Paul and Joey, how did you order the MTH tires?
Johnsgg1, it's been a while since I ordered them, but I called the MTH main phone # and asked for "Midge" in the Parts Department. I was having trouble finding the tire chart on the MTH website, so she told me what size tires I needed (DE-0000018 in my case), and took my order over the phone. She was very helpful!
I have purchased the tires off of ebay as well. Typically you can search the size along with mth tire and several will come up.
Looking at MTH's, it looks like DE-0000018 is the tire to order. Luckily, I can pick up spare tires for my MTH engines from MTH's parts booth at York.
Ron
Ron is correct. Use that tire for Weaver also.
Johnsgg1, I phoned MTH and ordered 13. They are .80 ea. and you need to spend a minimum of $10 for parts (their shipping policy). Hope this helps!
The DE-0000018 is 17mm in the chart. Is this correct when the groove (bottom) is
21.69mm?
