Just a friendly reminder of why we have groups like Operation Lifesaver.

From the Montclair Boonton line. Northern NJ. It would seem the Honda Pilot had a pretty bad pilot. That joke is only valid if the accident was due to his own negligence.NJT Car oneNJT Car TwoNJT Car three

We just had this type of incident here on Long Island in Malverne.  A person in a minivan went around the gates and got hit by the train.  He survived.

The picture of the wrecked Honda Pilot at crossing gave me an idea.  Maybe the authorities should leave the wrecks at the crossings as a reminder to other drivers.

They'd be too busy looking at their phones. They wouldn't notice the wrecked cars.

The people in the Pilot were fortunate, they survived, unlike the people in the tour bus that was hit by a CSX train in Biloxi, MS the other day.

I saw a news report about this accident that said the bus got caught on the hump in the road at the crossing.  Therefore, the bus couldn't move off the crossing.  The news report also said that there have been 17 train / vehicle collisions at the crossing during the past several years.  I don't remember how many years.

It seems to me that this crossing is fundamentally unsafe if these reports are true.  It needs to be rebuilt to make it to make it safer by removing the hump, relocating the crossing gates, increasing visibility or something else.

It seems to me that a vehicle that could get stuck on a grade crossing is poorly designed and shouldn't be on the road.  There are plenty of obstacles on the roads, and vehicles that cannot negotiate them are inevitably going to have problems.

There are signs post on both sides of that crossing, that indicate that it is a "high center", and trucks should NOT use that crossing. Either the bus driver didn't see the sign, or he DID see the sign, and chose to ignore it (maybe because he was NOT a 'truck', or didn't understand exactly what 'high center' means), thus getting stuck on the crossing/track do to his bus being "high centered".
