I have a mixed collection of toy trains- standard gauge to scale O to postwar. I am looking for 1-2 bookcases to store my trains- in my mind im picturing 4-6+shelves with glass doors to keep the dust out- standard wood build. I was looking for some nice sized book cases with glass doors- looked locally and can't find what I'm envisioning. Any ideas?

It depends on your ability to build them yourself, or your ability to pay for unfinished, finished, or custom built. Building yourself will give you satisfaction, and may save money. Buying new, finished furniture from a retailer will be expensive, but not as much as custom built. You may be able to find some at an estate sale, local auction, or garage sale.
You have two things to spend, time or money. It's your choice. I know this is rather vague, but, like your question, my response is open-ended, with several choices to consider.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
For a different perspective, take a look at Eric's Trains video episode # 39. Eric built a wall mount shelf with plexiglass doors to store his locos in. This one went from floor to ceiling. You could make it out of any type of wood from $ to $$$.
this guy can make you anything, more on the lines if fine furniture than plain cans
