Great video. It's amazing the amount of work that goes into a film.
Thanks for sharing.

Here's another great railroading video. Fantastic orchestration and teamwork! The shadows indicate this was all done in one part of a work day. Impressive!
Oh Boy!!!! More 'I hate the Lone Ranger movie' thread. I hope if you comment on this video you look at it as great model railroading....which is really what it is! I think it's cool they made real model trains and didn't just CGI the whole thing. The train stuff was great fun.....and looked pretty cool. Some of the stuff was wrong vs prototype.....kinda like a model!!
Thanks for posting....I had not seen that one yet!
well said AMC Dave
Thanks for the post.
I enjoyed it and enjoy seeing adders on some DVDs that give details of the filming of movies like Pearl Harbor and Flyboys that involved recreation of old things like planes and trains. These are some real model builders.

Thank you very much for posting this Bobby.
I really enjoyed the Lone Ranger film, and seeing how it was made makes it even more enjoyable.
Thank you again.
Just watched the DVD on Saturday night & throughly enjoyed it.
Great to see how it was made & how much of it was real & not CGI. Thanks for the link

Bobby,
Thank for posting this interesting video of behind movie scenes type of work and danger, and shows a lot of different aspects of railroading, with its hard work and dangers.

Bobby, thanks for posting link to r/r switch cutover. It was super, esp how the author
did the editing.
I haven't seen the movie, but I really enjoyed the "how it was done" video link that you posted, Bobby. It's simply amazing what goes into making such a film, and the huge financial risk involved.
Great video. It's amazing the amount of work that goes into a film.
What is amazing is the amount of money spent.
Did this film make a profit?
Bobby - That is an amazing video! Very cool how they did all that.

Really enjoyed the making of video, does anyone know how the locos were powered, or were they simply towed and pushed as needed. Does the dvd have bonus features on it (this video for instance.)
It seems to have been a dud..
"Disney expects to record a loss of as much as $190 million this quarter on “The Lone Ranger,” which cost $225 million to make and has produced less in box-office sales. "
Did this film make a profit?
Uhh...doesn't look like it: Gross was $89,302,115. Production budget was $215,000,000.

There's a lot of good (,& hopefully accurate,) information regarding these, and other questions on this Wikipedia page .
Edit: The link doesn't seem to work for some reason, but you can find it via a search for 'Lone ranger film' or by entering:-
"en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lone_Ranger_(2013_film)"
directly into your browser. (Without the quote marks of course.)
FYI..The Wikipedia link doe not work.

Thanks for sharing the initial link that showed the behind the scenes train work and action for the Lone Ranger movie.
The movie did have a much worse than expected box office success in the US - ref the $89 Million that Allan mentioned. It also grossed just over an additional $170 Million at the box office internationally, so it came close to breaking even. However, Johnny Depp movies aren't expected to break even.
Taken for what it was, it was a cool movie to watch, with some great train footage (appreciated better now that I have watched the behind the scenes clip).
Did this film make a profit?
Profit......That's kinda like asking 'how much to cut down a tree' varies greatly...no two alike. If you look at USA box office....NO. Add the worldwide box office....close to it. Then the PPV, DVD, BR and On Demand Yes for sure. But even if these numbers didn't add up a film makes money one way or the other....via tax credits, write offs, work credits etc etc etc. The industry has pushed laws that pretty much guarantee no one involved will loose their life savings or film company.....so why we use box office as a measure of success I am not sure. It made money...so it must be good right???
Some big profit films are horrible! So it boils down to did you like it yes or no.
I have family in the film business and I hate the constant ratings based on $$$$$$.
Want to see a good film that was a box office flop??? See Angels Perch.....takes place at Cass WV so there are trains...and a very well done film, important film, that made little money....but a success in my book.
