Alex,

Did you notice the new Euro-Style Union Switch & Signal Warning Red lights were definitely doing their job, Blinking Double Red back and forth on both sides of the track, no excuse for this trucker, he needs to go to jail. His driving just endangered many lives on that Train.  I can only imagine the night mares of the engineer riding up front in the engine Cab, he will relive that hit for the rest of his life.

Your perspective seems like a fair assessment to me. Who else but an arrogant fool, or a self-distracted one, would have causally and negligently driven onto that crossing.  Jail is a good idea for sure, IMHO.

According to the article:

A truck driver came within a second of death when his lorry was struck by a train - splitting it in half.

[The driver crossed the track in the Czech city of Frydek-Mistek, apparently unaware of the red light]

The lorry was hit by the passenger train at 7.38 am on Friday after he ignored the flashing red light in the Czech city of Frydek-Mistek. Had he crossed a second later, the train would have smashed into the driver's cab with its full force - with undoubtedly fatal results. The city council released footage of the horrifying incident on its Facebook page, apparently as a warning to other drivers. The CCTV shows how the lights had been flashing red for 40 seconds before the lorry attempts to cross the tracks.

But the moment the red cab gets all the way across, the train appears - hitting the lorry with such force, it splits in two, and the nearby road signs were destroyed. Unbelievably, the Polish driver, said to be 45, escaped with light injuries, with the 80 passenger said to be unhurt. Police have questioned him over the incident, which is thought to have caused about £20,000 worth of damage.
