With arrivals of the 3rd Rail Train of Tomorrow occurring, a video (aka "newsreel") of the prototype T of T is well-worth a look:

Frankly, before all of the hoopla about the model T of T, I had no idea it was, in fact, a REAL train.

Here is another link to information, including period photos and color images of the T of T.  Among the facts, the T of T was merely a scale model produced by GM as a sales and marketing tool before WWII.  In 1944, the decision was made to make a real train and Pullman was contracted to do so.  Enjoy.

Well, the ToT was certainly iconic and real.  I had fun researching and writing all about it in a project I just finished.  I can't wait to get my 3rd Rail model.

As to regrets about its fate, that is a downside of the technological progress we have.  It is just what happens.  I wish someone had preserved the Great Eastern, too, and the USS Enterprise (WWII) but we didn't.   Nice to have videos and photos like these.
