In the last episode of TNT's "Mob City" there is a scene apparently actually filmed in LA's Union Station with a real steam locomotive and silver Santa Fe passenger cars. The series is set in 1947. Does anyone know what train was actually used for the filming, and was Santa Fe still using steam power

for passenger trains in 1947?

Thanks in adavance.

A little background for those not in the LA area: the 3751 is stored at the Amtrak (former ATSF) Redondo Junction engine facility which is about 3 miles south of LAUPT. The 3751 was also used in the filming of the movie Pearl Harbor. Typically, for these movie shoots at the station, the engine is pulled or pushed cold and steam effects are added in post production. There is a group of Amtrak certified passenger cars stored near the station that are available for charter, the cars in the Mob City shoot may have been either Santa Fe and/or CZ cars, the lounge car, with the actors seen thru the windows as train was leaving the station was the Southern Pacific "Overland Trail."

SP lounge car (Overland Trail.com) is used in a variety of revenue services; charters, special runs, in-station parties, film and tv work. The car has been on most of 3751's runs and on Dec. 7th, they ran a 4 car "Pearl Harbor Troop Train" special coupled in with Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner to San Diego, my Pearl Harbor Survivor father and I were guests on it. Bill Hatrick is owner of the car and a most gracious host, and a friend.

As to station police in 1947, don't remember, I was two. My best guess would be LAPD but as a union station (ATSF, SP & UP) they may have had their own RR police.
