How many trains can you run on your layout at once, not counting lash ups? This question was inspired by Lee's video of running seven.

3, not including a trolley.
I am running 5 all trains have single engines with a couple of non power, wI'll do lash ups eventually. Plan to do a lash up and put one of the engines in the middle of the train. I saw this on CP trains in the rockies
The ultimate plan, when the layout is finally complete will to have a minimum of twelve trains running at once, all conventionally powered. Everything will be on it's own mainline.
This is not wishful thinking, I've actually got a plan.

I was able to run three trains at one time. Including the multiple engines it was five engines, two per freight and three for the passenger train.
I have enough transformers to run ten trains at once but the possibilities for an accident are too high.

Designed for four. One on each block. Two with reverse loops and two with 072 minimum radii. Any control, conventional, TMCC, Legacy or Lionchief.

Eight main lines, so at least eight.
Right now I have 5 trains each 12 cars long on a single 300' loop. I can do more but that's what I have running now, 35 scale mph.

On the last layout,Seven trains on five different mainlines safely under DCS and Legacy control (All the mainlines could be isolated from each other and were switchable between Legacy,DCS or Conventional.
I used to run three: I have three loops and ran one train on each.I run only conventional, or did up until LC+. Now, with LC+, I usually run four trains: either two LC+ locos in lockstep or one conventional set to a certain speed and an LC+ loco set to its same speed. My big loop is 135 feet around, and if each train is 15 feet long, that is more than fifty feet separating them: generally I can get speed set so they drift realtive to one another no more than one foot a minute or less so they often go for over an hour without getting too close.
When I ran seven, it was just an experiment: it means only about 15-20 feet between trains and six gaps to watch for creep on distance between, and it is just too much, although it was fun once.
Right now I can run four trains. Once I get the yard wired. the industrial area wired, and a small little short line line in I could then run 7 trains but only with the help of someone else.............Paul

I'm not sure because I have no "loops" on my layout. It is made up of single and double track mains with a combined length of around 1000' and a number of switching areas. When complete, it will really only limited by the number Cab-1's and operators I have. I'm thinking 10 - 12.
9 ten car consists running on 3 main lines using MTH DCS "ALL" feature.

I can run 4 on the different levels and one bumper car or street car, on its own track line, top level. However I can run at least two trains, with a 6 car consist, using slow speed control on each level if I really want to due it, which makes 6 trains in total, I hardly ever run in this manner however, the limited space on the Christmas layout makes things seem to confusing with 6 trains running at the same time, on the multi levels, I usually run 3 or 4 however, with the street car line over top in the background.

Theoretically? 99 with DCS. But I would have to borrow a few engines.
In reality, 9. Two on each of the 4 main tracks and one Corgi PTC trolley.
7 with additional operators.
3 plus 1 goat doing yard work.
I can run six,two each on main lines and one traditional loop plus a trolly for a total of nine.

when I had a layout it was 3 on a 8x8 "L" shaped table. the layout I keep sketching for "some day" will have 4 plus 1 working in the yard. all conventional
Depends on how many loops I build on the floor. Most so far is 3.
Thirty - though I can't do that by myself.... I can manage 20-21 at once..... with DCS...

I can operate four which includes a motorized unit like a trolley, fire car or gang car.
