We are going cross country skiing in the Tug Hill region of NY. This area is north of Syracuse and Utica and east of Pulaski. I may have some time to drop into a train store while up there. Is the a good O gauge shop in that area worth visiting? Thanks.

When I was in Syracuse last summer I visited JR Junction and really enjoyed it. They had a nice selection, great prices and great customer service. I would highly recommend you visit there.

Hmmm. I wonder if the Barnes Corner Hotel is still operating? If it is you may want to stop in for dinner and experience some of that Tug Hill hospitality.

That is a great resource to look up dealers. Got to keep that in mind.
However, I will not have a lot of extra time and will be able to check out only one or two shops. I've had bad luck just dropping into shops in upstate NY in the past; very small selection of O stuff. I was hoping to get some feedback from forum members on shops in that area that carry a good selection of O gauge.

Hi, I live in this area. J and R is a favorite-as is Besser's Whistlestop. Bessers has great deals on Williams locos. http://www.besserswhistlestop.com/. They are just putting their website together, so you will have to excuse its completeness!
J and R is in Dewitt, and Bessers is in Baldwinsville-they are probably 30-40 minutes apart depending on traffic.
Ron, I have not stopped here but Bessers in Baldwinsville gets high marks.
Barnes Corners will take about two minutes to check out. Its little more than a wide spot in the road but the Hotel was still a going concern when I rode through there last October. Its a hopping place during snow mobile season though.
Also from Bessers you are about 30 minutes from Gargraves.

You know, I drive through Barnes Corners at least 4 days a week for work, and haven't really noticed if the hotel is still open-guess I am too busy thinking about trains! I know Tuggers is though.
Looks like I too will be going to Syracuse next week.
I was looking at RJ Juction, anyone know if they carry more than what they show on their web site?
Also Besser's Whistlestop does not have anything on the site besides deals on Williams engines ...
