I think that, like you, some here who have seen enough on my layout probably realize that it's more of an attempt to re-create the looks of where/when my folks grew up and a lifelong desire to create that in miniature than it is "just a layout".

It's not that my work is any more special (or better rendered) than any other layout, though, but I never went into it with the idea of, "Man, I want a layout, let me see what theme I can use for that..." There are plenty of better layouts than mine out there, I just do the best I can and hope folks like (or at least appreciate) the results.

There are plenty of times where I'll go into the layout room, sit on a stool and just look at it for a while, without even flipping the master power switch on. I never realized how much I really wanted this until it started looking like a layout (and not just a Plywood Pacific). and I could just take it in every now and then.

I originally did this about 80% for myself, 15 percent for my parents and family (who I doubt will ever see it in person) and 5% for everyone else. That 5% surprised me with their reactions once I started putting it out into the world (online and in magazines) for others to see.

On drives from NJ thru Pennsylvania, and then to Upstate NY along Route 11 N, there used to be several roadside landscape/foliage places that offered plants for quick-sale-n-carry-out which were enjoyable to see. Many of them are out-of-business, now, though I have no idea why, so I am glad I crafted this collective impression of them while I could. I enjoyed doing this project very much.
