Greenberg's pocket price guide for Lionel Trains.
Greenberg's pocket price guide for Lionel Trains.
I was amused when I attended my first ever train show some years ago, as the sellers would break out the "Greenberg's Guide" in order to quote prices far removed from reality. Even though I was a total newbie most of the stuff I bought I paid about half of the prices in the so-called "guide." Read it with a box of sea-salt handy.
E-bay is a much better gauge of value.

That's funny Pete. I to IMO think Mr Greenburg is a wee bit out there sometimes.
Most of these guides have the "what I'd like to get for it" price and have little to do with reality. As was stated a grain of salt should be taken before consulting one.

I usually laugh when a vender even mentions Greenberg.
Then ask them if they want to sell stuff or just display it and drag it home.
And there is always the guy who has that one way overpriced but coveted item.
You know that he has been dragging it around for years.
Trains are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
eBay tends to be a fair gauge of what others were willing to pay.
The For Sale forum is also a pretty good guide also.
It is ALL relative between buyer and seller.
