I am an avid news reader. I have to say that lately I have been shying away from it. I prefer to read here on the OGR Forum and read the history behind everything that rides on rails.

It may be my age but I treasure my time and find working on my layout and running trains and reading about trains keeps me in a good positive mood. I'm 58.

No matter what the day throws my way a quick read hear when I get home and a quick visit to the layout melts it all away. Of course family time is first but fortunately my family loves that I have something I love and that makes me happy.

Thanks to all you posters for your frequently humorous quips and for sharing you combined wealth of knowledge with me.

Jeff, very well stated and I could not agree more.  I had never thought of my layout  as a "Safe Haven"  but I guess that is indeed what it is.

I remember 20 years ago while going through a divorce, the marriage counselor asked me to think of my "Happy Place" during one of the sessions.  She was shocked when I told her it was my attic (home of my layout).

Weather you call it your "safe haven" or "happy place", mine has brought me much needed escape for all of the 37 years I have been back in the hobby.

Happy railroading,

Don

Jeff,

I think you are a typical American male, we all have to escape from the daily occurrences that we encounter. Having a train set is more virtual than most people would think. Ok, let me explain. Take Gamers (I have been there) you play the game and immerse yourself into that virtual word, escaping the worries of the day.

Now you run the trains, or talk about them. You leave the world of everyday life and find a haven. Is there something wrong with that? Heck NO!

This is what is keeping you sane, so you don't go out and kick all the dogs in your neighborhood.

So what I like to do is, run my trains (watch), play some railroad blues and enter the

"BIG ROCK CANDY MOUNTAINS", you know the place where they hung the jerk that invented work."
