Trains Magazines special edition on Norfolk Southern's Heritage Power consisting of its 20 "Show Ponies" is a most interesting "insiders" story of how it all came about along with some great photos.

O-gauge modelers will be thrilled to learn of such details trivia as the 18 gallons of paint and 12 gallons of clear required to paint one of the "Ponies" [so they can scale down and paint their own rendition].

All 20 units are covered very well individually and collectively both descriptively and with photos.

Hey Dewey, Picked up a couple of copies the other day.  A really great presentation of the Heritage units and the associated history.

It also appears that the next "Trains" September'12 issue will have some additional coverage.  The ad for this issue in latest "Classic Trains" states "Exclusive coverage of the Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit Showcase."  They were shooting all day on Monday before the event so would expect far more than the twelve shots that is in the Special Collectors' Issue.
