Just thought I would share a trick I used last night.

I am in the process of landscaping the layout. Most of my trees I have to "plant". Even if they came with a base, I usually remove them. This means drilling a hole to put the trees into. If I sprinkle my grass first, then drill the hole for the tree, I get the wood shavings from the drilling onto the grass and it is hard to remove completely. So, I would rather drill first. But that creates a new problem. I drill, then glue down the grass and other landscape material. In doing so, I often lose sight of where the hole was drilled as it is now covered up. I would have to take a toothpick and keep prodding hoping to find the hole, many times not finding it and then redriling creating problem #1 again.

My solution, which I came up with last night, is to drill first and clear the shavings from the area. I then take golf tees and insert them in the holes. Now I can landscape the area. Once done, I can remove the tees and voila, I know exactly where my holes are.

Simple, I know, but to me it saves a lot of hassle.
