And he claims the only reason he models Amtrak is to have a legitimate delay for his coal trains..

Hah! Then he has obviously never ridden the real thing. UP delays Amtrak for anything they can make up. In my 5 trips between Oakland and Denver (or beyond) never had less than 3 hours of delays here and there usually in the middle of nowhere going from one siding to the next as traffic passes in both directions.
Kudos for some great pics though!

Hmmm, is that a Lobster claw on the front of the Genesis I see? It looks like my MTH engine. I've got to get quite a few more to catch up. I got one Atlas Amtrak car now. I'm sad I missed them. The engines look good. Who makes the double decker cars?
This is the best topic title I have seen on this new Forum
Swinging pilots AND lobster claws on the 2-Rail Forum?????
Good grief!
IMHO , the Amtrak livery on a person's layout is a mark of intelligence and good
judgement.

Midway between the Schenectady and Albany Amtrak stations
Where's Trinkle Train Man... He would explain the lobster claws if he would log on..
Your right Hot Water-Good Grief!
Like the Amtrak Livery....
Thanks Erik,
His post proves plastic can be just as beautify as brass. Looks like a mix of OMI and other. Some day, I'd like to see the Acela on 2 rails O.
Exactly- Both OMI brass and MTH are used in these photos together coupled up to one another.
The lobster claws are a little coy but it proves there are more options to low budget O scale looking for a great looking model without paying $1300-$4000 a piece. The MTH F40PH is really fantastic, I have never seen one until he brought up his SkiTrain set; WOW. They are gorgeous, new wheels and fix the pilot and claws and this model is really terrific.
Thanks Michael!
The Road Railers are Bowser heavily modified and seriously improved on by Leo Lamanuzzi. They are wonderful.. a little odd for a western consist but COOL!
Here's my MTH Genesis. I did put 2 rail wheels and that was easy. I have to fix the pilot and add KDs still.
Adding KDs to their cars looks quite challenging. The diaphrams stick way out. I'll have to cut them back and make up some kind of mount for the coupler. I wish I had got more Atlas 2 rail Amtrak cars. They even have Leds inside already! I hope MTH improves their cars soon to match their engines. Joe
Yes, yes, ok you guys caught me enjoying my Amtrak!
Joe, the double decker cars are Superliner cars in brass made by
Overland. They did both Phase III and Phase IV paint schemes in 6
car sets- Coach Baggage, Coach, Diner, Cafe Lounge, Sleeper and Transition Sleeper.

I assume the Amtrak train has passed by now. While you are waiting for something else to come down the tracks, would you mind snapping a fer photos of the entire coaling facility, from mine head to tipple?
Pitogo,
That Amtrak F40 is another club member's engine, but I do have 3 Amtrak and 3 Ski Train to convert. For years now, I have been getting great deals on 3 Rail and 2 Rail stuff that has been hard to pass up. Now that Kirk Mitchell is no longer with us, I can't tap into so many great liquidation deals so I only buy 2 Rail now - and pre order but no pre pay like brass is an added bonus!

Of course John, despite your request I NEED TO!

Good looking train on a great looking layout. The scale of the Giant in the middle of the scene is a little questionable.
I want to see the UNSX coal train!
rdunnii,
I just made a deal with the Empire that should see the
UNSX and 100 other new cars hittin' the rails in 2 rail
format over the next couple months.
And Thanks again for sellin' the train to me!
I too look forward to its inaugural run!
Thanks,

Any way to contact this person? I definitely want to get my hands on those Roadrailer coupling trucks! I also would not mind finding out what modifications he did to the Bowsers[esp the triple crowns]. Pics would be wonderful!

Great pics! I have an MTH F40 in the NJ transit livery, it came with scale wheels and fixed pilots. I love that engine. It's actually my next engine for cosmetic upgrades. here it is with 6 atlas comet II's.

I am desigining some custom molded, fixed pilot replacements starting with the
MTH SD40-2...but these things take time to do well.
Thanks for the post. Amtrak's been around for almost 43 years now. How many fallen flags have there been since Amtrak was created? If it isn't a legit road now, it never will be. Beautiful trains on a great layout. The F40 has always been my favorite passenger diesel. Rode behind many of them throughout my childhood into my young adult years.
A similar Amtrack train has been running each year on the large modular layout used at the Big E Amherst show in Springfield Ma, I believe it is all Overland products[2 power units and a long train 12-16 cars] interestingly that modular layout has been recently offered for sale by the organization that sets it up,I do not know the story there.
