Here is a link to a 2022 TV Ontario documentary on this unique train (mostly just 2 Budd RDC's) that travels Ontario's near-north from Sudbury to White River. It shows impressive scenery and stunning panoramas of this part of the Canadian shield and boreal forest, popular among canoe trippers, campers and fishers. Frequently, the doc provides key historical notes and railroad operating rules. The helicopter camera and the camera mounted on the outside of the front of the cab provide unparalleled views of the train, track and terrain.

Warning: it is nearly 3 hours long, so not a quick study.

Hi Bob: I watched this (the whole thing) the first night it was broadcast and enjoyed it. I not only learned some interesting historical facts (to which you referred) but I also found the program quite relaxing with the facts printed on screen (if one chose to read them) rather than a constant nattering voice over.  Apparently this voiceless approach to documentaries has become quite popular in Europe. 🤫

They seem to have taken the video away! Perhaps the link is broken??

Not sure why it doesn't work for you - it does for me. You could try typing into your browser "Tripping Train 185 You Tube" or something close to that and it should bring it up.

What a marathon that must have been! I watched it in parts, spread over 3-4 days. We are a canoe tripping family and the train ride from Sudbury to Biscotasing always added an extra element of adventure. Have done the Spanish River several times. The ambience of the Budd Cars is very special to us. And as seen in this video, the crew members are as gracious and helpful as can be. I'm sure it is not officially allowed, but I once did get to sit in the cab while the engineer explained the workings of the Budd and special features along the route.

Bob,

I live in the US and I am unable to watch it too. YouTube only allows a short trailer.

Yes, Naveen, I live in Canada. I had no idea that TV Ontario restricted its documentaries to certain geographic areas. I don't see the logic behind this. I will make an enquiry. Perhaps they have a legitimate reason for doing so and if I hear anything, I will post to this thread. Thanks for letting me know.

Again, I am sorry that you were blocked from seeing it and to any other forum members, likewise.

Bob

I heard back from TV Ontario this morning and here is the reply and explanation why this video is not viewable in the US. I will make an additional enquiry to the producers, as suggested. Again, I apologise to any of you who might have attempted to see this documentary and were blocked.

"Thank you for contacting TVO. We appreciate your interest in sharing the TRIPPING Train 185 documentary with the model railroader members in Canada and south of our border.  Unfortunately, our content is geo-gated to play only in Canada specifically as per our copyright arrangements.

If you have a chance you could always reach out to GoodEarth Productions, the original producers, to see if they have any plans to broadcast this program in the US!"

I heard back from GoodEarth Productions, the producers of this documentary. Their reply follows. So, I can not think of any alternative for viewing this video if you live outside of Canada. Pity!

"Hi Bob,
Thanks for your kind words about our program.  We sure enjoy making them.
Unfortunately at this time we have no plans to broadcast in the US.  Sadly there is no appetite from standard broadcasters.
Our programs used to be available on Amazon Prime in the US, but a year or two ago, without explanation, they just stopped offering a whole slew of docs.  Ours included.
We continue to look for a reliable replacement.  No luck yet.
Sorry I don’t have any solutions for your friends aside from...move to Canada.
Andrea"
