Trouble upgrading a TIU

Have a customers TIU, Rev I3A,. trying to upgrade to 6.1 software.

Power up the TIU to 12 VAC, connect the USB-Serial cable, pull up the Service Loader 5.0 and search for Com 3 - success.

Plug in the mini-cable for a TIU upgrade, start the software upload and the connection to Com 3 goes away. Never had this happen in previous uploads. What is going on?

Repeat the procedure and the same thing happens. Is this a malfunction in the TIU or more commonly a problem with my lap-top.

Any ideas?
