Power Lionel ZW-c with 135 watt Brick

TMCC with Cab1

I finally was able to open and place on the layout my Lionel legacy Pere Marquette Berkshire (6-11203) along with the Polar Express Tender (6-11151) which I purchased new several years ago and had never been run. With the switch on the tender in the railsounds position and the engine switches on program, no smoke and Legacy On I powered up the track. When I pressed the set button on my Cab1to give the locomotive a new ID the tender emitted a buzz sound like you get when a speaker is not hooked up correctly. I turned the power off, removed the shell and checked for any loose wires or plugs which were not securely seated. Found nothing.

Turned power on again went through the steps to assign new ID and the same thing happened as before. I paid attention this time to see if the headlight blinked when I pushed the set button and it didn't. Turned power off.

Took shell off locomotive to check for loose wires and plugs which were not securely seated and found nothing.

Set switch from program to run and placed loco and tender on track also making sure the infrared signal between loco and tender was not blocked. Addressed engine using the default #1, turned power off and on. Addressed engine with ID #1  turned red knob on Cab1 same buss out of tender and the locomotive took off at high speed. I got it to stop by turning the red knob. After it stopped it was unresponsive to any commands from the Cab1.

Same thing happened when I turned power off and on and repeated the steps as before. I then went through the steps to set locomotive to its original default. Turned power off waited ten seconds and turned power on. When I pressed set, same results with  Buzz sound out tender.

Turn power off and on Address engine buzz out of speaker turn red knob and the loco takes off. Tried the above procedure again but having locomotive  moving backwards, same results.

Separated loco and tender and repeated steps. Same result.

All other locomotives operate just fine. Any suggestions of what may be the problem would be appreciated. Worse case scenario I send it out for repair.

Thanks

David

David: The fact that it takes-off on its own at times and is generally unresponsive to most commands leads me to believe you have an antenna issue of some sort. Check the handrails on the engine to see if any of the plastic stanchions that hold them to the shell are damaged or missing. You could also make sure the antenna wires inside the shell are connected to the legacy electronics. While doing that also check to be sure the handrails are not electrically grounded to the locomotive shell itself.

Make sure the radio receiver board (R4LC likely...) is seated to the Legacy electronics securely.
